This advertises as a grand tactical game of modern warfare, and delivers. This is an excellent war-game covering all aspects of modern warfare. Not just the usual infantry, artillery, and airpower, but integrating airpower, logistics and cyber warfare in the mix. Like many tactical games of the past integration and timing are very important. My first play showed me that I had barely touched it’s depth. The only down side is that the game needs a good storage solution. Standard counter trays are too big for the box.

We’ve bought this game because we wanted to play a “serious” war game but don’t have any experience playing such games. We’re all interested in international politics, working in different fields, but none of us have a military background. The game is both a LOT of fun to play and an excellent way to familiarize ourselves with core concepts of modern warfare. The rules are fairly simple to understand, and the tutorial mission is an excellent introduction to the core mechanics of the game. Despite the minimalistic design, it’s very immersive, and can get pretty intense. The game flows really well, especially once everyone has gotten the basics down. Really just an excellent game.
This game was my introduction to hex-style wargaming. Sebastian Bae is my professor, so my review might be biased, but here goes: I've yet to try land combat - but the ship-to-ship is amazing. I have fun every time I play this game. Lots of laughs and great fun with friends. Strengths 1. Decisions in the game feel meaningful and rewarding 2. Educational and exciting to learn new concepts (things like cyber) 3. Simple and easy to play after a turn or two 4. Cards introduce depth and layers far beyond dice rolling Weaknesses 1. Can cause analysis paralysis for slow gamers like me 2. Card selection in the beginning can be intimidating
An excellent tool for both professional education and hobby gaming alike. Have leverage it several times in class room setting for both graduate students and military officers to teach basic dynamics of long range fires, challenges of future littoral warfare, and decision space of future on the ground commanders.
This outstanding game delivers exactly what it‘s designed for. An educational wargame on tactical level with high component quality, a well designed unit set-up with endles domain options how to wage and win war against your opponent. The tutorials are a superb addition to get the players understanding the game mechanics and rules. There is so much to like… A clear „Hall of Wargame“ candidate.
