Stronghold: Undead (Seconda Edizione Tedesca)

This is an awesome thematic game that builds tension and excitement unlike any other two player games. It is beautiful on the table with lots of bits moving around... it sucks you into the action immediately. The game is undergoing really nice streamlining with patreon feedback and game testing. And as always a million great ideas means lots of expansions and scenarios and more and more content... it's what Portal does.

Don't be fooled, this is Stronghold 3rd edition. It's not an expansion for neither the first or second edition, it's a standalone game. The game itself it's very cool. The rules are more streamlined than in the previous versions, still it's a long game.

Aside from the long reading/explanation of rules, the gameplay can be fast and satisfying. The game is not that complex and it has great depth, because of the choices you make. Played 2 games so far both as the defender and attacker and won/enjoyed both.

See my comments regarding Stronghold: 2nd edition for general impressions. Despite the somewhat improved rulebook, I must still give this game a 9 if for no other reasons than it really isn't all that different from Stronghold and still has some noticeable gaps in the rulebook.

The game has a lot of tiny rules but carries the theme well. The game seems to be balanced and tense. Both sides are always struggling the resources and strategies. Needless to say, it's a good game. However, the rules are written in poor quality. A lot of things are required to clarify and needed a good player aid. Playing time requires 4 hours! It's such a long game!
