The characters in the base game seemed to be lacking something. These 4 feel a bit more exciting.
Player limit is increased, as well as extra characters to play with. The character add-on deck is definitely a MUST get, as it allows more friends to joy the adventure.
Essential, really. Adds characters and unique boons and banes, increases the randomness of the initial box set.
Adds new character types, which is good if you want more options during your first campaign or want to mix it up on a second run-through. Also adds a handful of new allies, items, etc., that complement the abilities of the new characters. Not worth MSRP, though. I purchased it at deep holiday discount ($7) and got my money's worth. [i]Update[/i]: A year after our adventure began, four of us - mom, dad, and kids - finally finished the full Skull & Shackles campaign. We used Oloch (invaluable) and Damiel (good) from the add-on deck for all 40+ games, so clearly we got our money's worth.
