Absolutely phenomenal expansion for an already brilliant game. This raises Space Empires to a 10 for me. The solo & co-op scenarios are awesome & the app makes the Alien Player scenario more streamlined and quicker. The only things I haven't tried out are the research centers, experience or the custom ships but I'll get to them eventually. There's just so much fun stuff in this box!!!
This expansion adds a lot to Space Empires 4X: It adds asymmetry through empire advantages, and several new interesting tech options that also make the games more varied.
Contains some stuff that probably should have been included in the core set, some stuff that directly addresses some common criticisms/problems of the core set, some stuff that incentivizes aggressive play even more than it already is, and... Those cards and all the new stuff make this expansion a must-have. One of the best expansions out there. You'll find more rules to tweak the game to your group's liking. The cards provide a new dynamic and it increases the Fog of War (I prefer the hidden card instead of the bidding) that was already so prevalent in the game - which is always a plus for me. I've seen some complains here on the geek that the cards are not balanced, which is something I believe is nonsense. Trick your opponents, make them pay the price for their lack of vision.
Expanding on the amazing base game, Space Empires really flushes itself out here with lots more options and generally more rewarding. I'll never turn down a game.
