Stella: Dixit Universe

An excellent Dixit side-game, especially when you own every Dixit expansion xD Basically replaced Dixit as is gives the same creative feel but faster, more concentrated, and puts everyone on the same playing field. I use a couple house rules that lessen the effect of being “In the Dark”. Essentially, anyone who announces a card and matches with no one becomes In the Dark for the rest of the round, and flips their token over. They continue to score points, but only one less for every match. If the player with the most X’s is also In the Dark at the end of the round, they lose points equal to the number of X’s between them at the next In the Dark player down the line.

A light-weight party game. Pros + applies little “creative pressure” that other party games do + beautiful production + quick to learn Cons - the dry erase boards can degrade over time, leaving streaks permanently Overall One of the most accessible games for both gamers and casuals. Allows people to be creative without needing to perform on-the-spot (like Dixit requires).

Faire du neuf avec du vieux, voilà le tour de force de Stella. Fini le mutisme des gens qui n'aiment imaginer des choses à partir d'un dessin, Stella vous propose des mots, à vous d'y relier les dessins pour lesquels vous voyez une connexion. Tout le sel réside dans la phase de scoring, épique, pendant laquelle il faudra bien cerner vos adversaires et tenter de penser comme eux. Quel superbe jeu!

Really love how this changes up the Dixit game. Each round the game presents a clue or prompt, and each player must secretly choose a number of cards that they think match the prompt (and that other players would think the same). This adds a lot more thinky decisions to each round of the game, rather than just guessing the main player's card. There is a fun tension of how deciding how many cards to guess, and seeing which cards match with others. Being compatible with Dixit has inspired me to accrue much more of the Dixit collection.

I love this game - probably my favorite "party" game after So Clover. Party in quotes because I'm on the fence if this is truly a party game. I especially love using all the Dixit art and art from other similar games with this - I think it is more interesting than just what comes in this box. We own practically every Dixit expansion and other games that come with this type of art. I recommend both Stella and One Key with extra cards. We like them both a lot more than actual Dixit.
