In Bookmaker, players race horses around the track by playing cards from their hands. They're not concerned about winning, however, but rather making as much money as possible from the bets they place based on what they hold in hand. Some players will be nominated as "bookmakers", which entitles them to see additional cards and this have a better chance of knowing the outcome of the race; they are also the ones who will determine the prizes for each race.
