I have played the previous games in the series (Here I Stand and Virgin Queen) and I can say that Tanto Monta is the most fun and exciting of the three. Being for 4 players, the rounds are more dynamic and the intermission lasts less. Furthermore, in Tanto Monta there are many more battles and more interaction between all the players, with changing alliances and a very dynamic and sometimes perverse strategy. The components and graphic design are also a 10/10
The game "Tanto Monta" is the necessary Prequel that I have always hoped for for the game Here I Stand. The work of development and mechanical improvements carried out by Carlos Díaz, as well as the art displayed by Iván Cáceres, have brought us, with the help of GMT Games and NAC Wargames, a cultural and recreational product that will mark a epoch.
Two plays under my belt and looking forward to our third game. TM was one of my most anticipated games and it did not disappoint. I have always been fascinated by this period of history. I love all the tactical possibilities, the more engaging combat and event cards focusing on warfare. This game is a worthy addition to HIS and VQ.
Superb successor to HIS/VQ, my favorite games of all time. Rules complexity has been overstated by others, IMO. I look forward to many more plays. Requires focus and time allocation by serious boardgamers, of course. Revising to a full 10 after another complete play. Tremendous, multi-dimensional clash between all four players, evolving through different eras over the game. Once the rules impedance has dissolved into the background the game is even more immersive than HIS and VQ. My group had a few quibbles but overall it’s a design masterpiece.
A lot has been already said about the game being "too much" so I would like to comment on that. Yes, this game is "much" and it may very well be "too much" for most people. Around me, people who enjoy Paradox Interactive's Grand Strategy Games (CK, EU, Vicky) also love this game, since "figuring out how the mechanics work" is the name of the game. And I am all-in for that.
