By the end of the III century the Roman Empire is doomed. Enemies surround the borders, instability spreads over the provinces, and whenever a Roman Emperor has the courage and ability to fight a threat, usurpers take his place in Rome and increase the chaos. TETRARCHIA (Latin of Tetrarchy, "leadership of four") is a cooperative game in which 1 to 4 players take the role of the 4 Emperors, fighting the revolts within the Empire and the Barbarian armies that try to bring it down. With simple rules, the core engine leads to very different games and many interesting choices:
- Up to 81 difficulty challenges.
- That you can combine with up to 5 variants (including special powers and a competitive mode).
- That you can combine with up to 3 expansion modules (from Tetrarchia: Dux).
- Plus 4 historical scenarios since July 2017 (for earlier copies you can download them here).
The flow of each Emperor's turn is very simple: spend up to 6 'Imperivm Points' (IP), and then propagate threats with the roll of two dice. The Emperors can spend their IP in: Move to a linked province, order a Roman fleet to Sail to an adjacent sea zone, Secure the province by placing one of their tokens, Subdue the province by removing the Unrest/Revolt token, or Attack a Barbarian army in a linked province. The players win if they secure the borders of the Empire before the majority of provinces revolt or Rome falls.

An excellent solitaire game. Very clean play and clear rules, lasts around 20-30 minutes. Although fairly abstract, it has enough flavour of the period of the late Roman empire. New edition has loads of variants and historical scenarios. The designer's love of his game shines through, and his engagement and patience are evident from the responses he gives on the fora. Also engaging system to add difficulty to the basic game. My current go-to solitaire game when I have a spare half hour, but want a thinky challenge. Update: one year on, I've added a point to make it 10. Still fresh and I keep coming back to it regularly.

A war game stripped of all non-essential action that gets to the core of what a good game should offer regardless of theme. Movement, battles, random revolts and even map locations (six regions with six zones) are all simply driven by a six sided dice. This is a design masterpiece and should be the wargame equivalent of Monopoly or Cluedo and available in every game store. Simple to learn, hard to master, totally addictive!

For me a perfect game. Not the most complete, epic, best components...but i love it. I love these simplistic and well thought games, that way it reminds me of 8 Minutes Empire. Like the theme and the co-op Andor or Pandemic puzzle style. Small box in the style of Tiny Epic Games that invites your shelf remain in your collection. Quick set up always good and games under an hour either solo or with friends. Quite replayable. New edition comes with the expansion included that adds more variablity and the possibilty for a fifth player to play as the overlord...I mean barbarians XD. A solid 10 for me.

This is one of my favourite board games. Subtle and clean design, endless replayability, many valuable variants, fantastic gameplay balance, wonderful artwork and it's based on a very strong and immersive theme. Everything just works together beautifully. I'm not aware of any weak points. Highly recommended!
