I just LOVE this game! Tim Taylor has put so much effort into the mechanics and it really shows. Western Front WW1 in 3 fun-filled hours! (NUTS! Publishing version, autumn 2013). Great production quality and the artwork is amazing. Awesome game for anyone contemplating starting in wargames and for grognards too! I really like that the CDG mechanic doesn't undermine this wargame. It's CDG enhanced, not CDG driven. I can't say enough good things about this brilliant game!

Took a while to build. Printed the map on an A1 sheet. Really lovely. Consider how you'll mount it carefully. Building at the moment. Looks good. Want to play it with the wife; we've just made a trip to Verdun (and came across lots of evil looking shells in the woods). Looks like a winner.
This was what I've been looking for in the I. Wold War department. A proof that games do not need to be heavy to be deep. Really fun to play and not cumbersome. Great design, excellent rulebook and very good looking game pieces. Counters desperately need to be clipped though. Very highly recommended!
Couple of plays. First a quick win as the Germans reaching a Decisive Victory in 1916. Then a slow and desperate struggle as the Entente lasting into mid-1918 when my opponent surrendered and gave me a Marginal Entente Victory. I really like how the game provides Fog of War. The ability to move units along your front without the opponent knowing, the knowledge that your opponent must have some weaker points in his line that might be worth you attacking, and the need to balance spending on cards and building units provide plenty of interesting decisions even when you are defending an essentially static front through much of the game.
This is not just game. It is more of a toolbox that permits you to play the Western Front of the world war one in any way you want. Great mod-ability, a good basic engine, and a massive mount of options. A game with decisions that make you think, and a good balance between friction and planning. There are some issues: Not really a multiplayer game. I wish it had something like the Strike of the Eagle system for multiplayer. Second, sometimes the dice can be too decisive. A good game, but even more and outstanding toolbox.
