TERRA MYSTICA is a strategy boardgame about civilization where you develop your fantasy peoples, settle on a map consisting of different landscapes and transform landscapes into your territory (your habitat), upgrade your buildings, evolve your abilities, increase your influence in cults and gain priviliges.
Each of the 7 different landscapes is the habitat for 2 peoples:
Desert (Fakirs, Nomads)
Farmland (Halflings, Cultists)
Swamp (Alchemists, Darklings)
Lake (Mermaids, Swarmlings)
Wood (Witches, Auren)
Mountain (Dwarves, Draftsmen)
Solitude (Giants, Chaosmagicians)
Players compete by extending their territory, which also means to transform other landscapes into their own habitat and by progressing with the development of their peoples.
You have to manage resources like workers, priests, money and power, you can evolve abilities like transformation and navigation or the special abilities of your people, you will earn privileges (advancements) by building temples or a sanctuary and you try to participate in as many scorings as possible: each round will end with a special scoring, you can get additional scorings through supply cards or privileges, some peoples have scoring abilities and the game ends with a final scoring.
There are many ways leading towards victory, each people has different abilities, timing your actions is crucial, because you interact on the map, on the cult places and in many choices you have to make.
So the aim is to find the right balance between development, expansion and participation in the variable scorings to lead your people towards victory.
Each game will play differently, because the players can choose between 14 fantasy peoples and the ingame scorings and the available supply cards are variable.
