This adds quite a bit to the game and changes some of the strategies considerably. It does so without really upping the rules complexity, though -- it just adds a few more options. And while the base game is definitely solid by itself, the new possibilities here make it even better!

I had the privilege of playing the expansion with Seth Jaffee himself a local board game con. The new influence is neat and the new buildings are unique and open up many new strategies by allowing you to build on top of existing structures. Lastly, the new knightly orders use the new mechanics in fun ways. Can't wait for the expansion to drop.

This game gives a solid engaging experience in 45 minutes to an hour. I love the theme, find the decision space very interesting, and its easy to teach. I think the expansion fixes the glaring issue with influence being overpowered.
