The bridge was silent, save for the hum of the ship’s air filters. Nima, the sensor operator, lifted her eyes from the screen. “No signs of intelligent life, no communication traffic, no artificial lights,” she whispered.
“Atmosphere?” Captain Nastasia asked, her voice firm and commanding so everyone on the bridge could hear.
“Dense, probably corrosive…”
Nima stopped mid‑sentence as a shadow fell across the bridge. The sun had been eclipsed by a massive entity approaching the ship, fast and silent. Collision alarms began to shriek across the consoles. The crew of the Akhander stared at the gigantic wreck descending upon them, a dark, unstoppable mass crowned by the cold light of the stars.
