Three games in one box is nice, and it helps that I like all three games. Samarkand has only 1 closed market tile, and maybe this is better for the pace of the game. Instead of a barely-decision to think about, it's a slightly more important impact that happens automatically. Cubes on the board are so much more readable than piling up cards (too bad the nice illustrations are gone, but whatever, it saves so much space). You just have to assume players aren't cheating with pulling out too many cubes now.... but I guess the game is designed to punish that anyway, with the penalty if the supply is empty. Heh, modern euros NEVER trust players anyway.

The turns of Samarkand are so quick, and the gameplay so straightforward. No frills, just pure pick-up, trade, and deliver. What a breath of fresh air! Add in the fast-playing Samarkand Market, with low rules overhead and satisfying game that plays at around 15-20 minutes, and this package, by virtue of these two games, is delightful and, to boot, great value.
