Holding On: The Troubled Life of Billy Kerr

I had the ability to play this with Rory post Origins and was floored at how good it is. Games like this push the industry forward in a big way. The gameplay melts perfectly with the theme and the art is expertly crafted to present an immersive experience. Major hats off to Michael, Rory, and Bryn for the achievement. Some people will surely not accept or fully grasp what is being done here, and that is ok. That happens with all great things.

I've played this 3 times now, always with the prototype version and it's been great every time. The theme is very compelling and I really enjoyed playing the 2 scenarios that we made it through. Additionally, I was able to play through scenario 1 again with a new set of players and it went over very well. The mechanisms built around partial and clear memories as well as trying to figure out the story from snippets of someone's life were really well done.

It's rare to have a game where the mechanics and narrative compliment each other as well as Holding On. Pairing a jigsaw-style board to represent the finding of long-forgotten memories with a resource management system for nurses saving a life has you interested in both the challenge of play and the story being told! excellent

Played this at gencon. The game and story are both compelling. Definitely a little different.

Co-op with unlocked challenges that refreshes play. After playing all the scenarios solo (3 handed) and realising after a forum comment I've been playing the game incorrectly (resources gained from a patient card are shared, not allocated to each staff member assigned), I still think this is an incredible design. What has really helped in this (health) worker placement and resource managment game has been the use of the components, mainly the memory decks. Basically you are buidling a quilt with a fuzzy layer backing to then place clear cards.
