Update: The more I play this the more I love it. There’s a real depth of strategy here that you might not see on your first few plays (at least I didn’t). The simple rules and brilliant map mean you can get right to clever play — and there are a lot of ways to be clever. Masterpiece. Super fun and simple block war game. Pretty much was in love with it a few turns in. This just has "it" -- all the rules make sense, the game has a really nice flow, the map is interesting, and it has enough little pieces of chrome to immerse you in the time period.

Card driven block wargame in the same style but slightly less complex than Hammer of the Scots (possibly the perfect weight for a block game). Great rules, very enjoyable to play, great theme and strategic choices. Mayday sleeved.
Update: as BearDot25 recently stated "The more I play this the more I love it. There’s a real depth of strategy here that you might not see on your first few plays". Upgraded from 8.5 to 10. The best Columbia blocks wargame imho (and I have and play many of them), Brilliant mechanics, specially the amphibious movement, which is basic and decisive to improve your strategies. Digna de mención y agradecimiento la calidad de la edición española de Do it games. ----- Easy and fun to play blocks wargame. Strategically deeper than what it could look like. And very tense and tight untill the end.
Julius Casar is arguably the best block game in this size. Straight 10, because of flawless rules in the shortest form possible. You can learn it fast, play it fast and yet every game is different and challenging. Both sides are very interesting to play, with their respective strengths and weaknesses, yet it's balanced. Julius Caesar offers a lot in terms of strategy and tactics, because of it's card system of prioritising moves. Julius Caesar is simply a gem.
[5 plays] A very solid, quick paced, exciting block game. Columbia provides an excellent thematic port of the Liberty/Hammer/1812 system to the Roman Civil War. The cards are superbly done here: a nice balance of event cards to movement/reinforce/recruit cards with plenty of tension in the card play. Weak movement cards are compensated by increased levies. The outcome of epic battles can seem devastating at first, but rarely knock a player out of the contest. This is a top 5 block game in my estimation. 3rd play after a six year gap since the first two plays has me raising the rating to a deserved 10. Most recent play Aug 2023
