Played this brand new game from Medusa Games. Great artwork by Andre Schneider, and a great theme - air races from 1903. The components are great quality, cards are on quality cardstock, there is plenty of variety and replayability. There are 6 planes and, I think, 16 pilots. 64 boost and dirty trick cards. Basic game play in around an hour, but full game double that. Other options for longer games, cooperative and more. plays 2-6, says 12+ but younger players will be able to cope as movement etc is dice driven. English and German rules including card descriptions.

Another close 2 player game has made me up score to a 9. Rules could be clearer and more planes should have been added to the expansion but great game other than that.
Magnificent Flying Machines resembles a contemporary Euro right down to its tedious setup and four-word inspiring rulebook, but it plays like an old Avalon Hill--handfuls of dice, a setting more typical to a wargame, some take that cards, and a long-ish playing time. The luck of the dice is very easily mitigated with multiple ways around bad rolls, but the take that cards may lead to game leaders being attacked regularly. (Our group is plays dirty regardless, so they were a good fit for us.) The caricature art still gives me pause, but if I can get into Richard Denning's mind, I believe it's meant to be inclusive and diverse.
Great game, simple, fun and strategic. A race where being the first one to cross the line might not give you the victory, some push your luck element in there that makes it exciting. Really fun game.
Demoed at Essen. Really good! Push your luck but with enough mitigation that it doesn't look unfair. Plus I really like the artwork.
