After playing a myriad of games over two decades, Doomtown stands head and shoulders above the rest as being my very favorite. I love the strategy of building decks, the tense tactical decisions, the balance of luck vs skill, the theme, and the playing community.
This is the revamped core set to allow for more structured and balanced organized play (standard) it will be comprised of Weird West Edition and the previous Pinebox Era Expansions (about 4 of them right now). There will be an alternate format for open play called Old Timer, which will allow all Doomtown Reloaded and Pinebox era cards to be usable, using any MRP or Errata of course. I have been playing with the new cards via Doomtown Online a web browser means to play this great game. If you like poker, weird western themes, and deeply complex and strategic play then you will enjoy this game.
New set is great: not only do they nerfed/removed all the problematic cards, they also decreased "cost curve" of the cards. This caused games to have more "board development" than in AEG-era, and more interesting plays.
I wish it was more popular. What a great game. Ticks many boxes for me: weird west, cards, asymmetry with area control, constructing the landscape yourself during play. Highly complex chess-like with that additional adrenaline rush of shootouts involving luck, that you can influence in deckbuilding, but once youre in the game all you can do is hope for a good draw. SO SO GOOD. I'd probably give it a 10 if i could play it more
