To that end, you draft caballeros (knights) into your court and subsequently move them onto the board to help seize control of provinces. After every third turn, the regions are scored, and after the ninth turn, the Grande with the most points is deemed the winner.

The new artwork is not pretty and does not fit the setting - if possible, get an older version of this excellent game!

Found El Grande only 30 years after its release and, in my personal opinion, it holds up extremely well. Rules can be taught very quickly, the game doesn't last too long and so far, every game has felt fresh and different. I can only see the game getting better and better with experienced players. There are some very creative moves you can make in this game.

I absolutely adore this game, especially with friends at 4/5 players. It is easy to teach, yet offers immense depths due to the highly interdependent gameplay. Due to natural balancing mechanisms built into the design, it always keeps an intense fight till the very end. It will also lead to quite some politics around the table, with players trying to influence others decisions in their own favor. To me, this will be an eternal 10/10. Very much prefer the newer version though, as it offers far better readability.

Amazing game. Loved every single play, such an amazing experience. The gameplay has a lot of tension, striving, manipulating, it hits every time and delivers a great experience with your friends. The rules are clear, but not necessarily clear to all players which can create some misplays. Love the grande and tower.
