On April 26, 1898, the United States declared war on Spain. Five days later, the US Navy's Asiatic Squadron, led by Commodore George Dewey, entered Manila Bay and destroyed Spanish Admiral Patricio Montojo's Pacific Squadron.

Manila Bay 1898 is a campaign study based on this battle, exploring possible historical alternatives of that moment, including the failure or delay of the Spanish reinforcement squadron's arrival and Montojo's abandoned strategy of dispersing his fleet across the Philippine archipelago.

Fourteen scenarios cover both real events and possible ones. Operational scenarios are played on the map of Second World War at Sea: Java Sea, using the counters from Great War at Sea: Remember the Maine.
