Queen Alice
Queen Alice immerses you in the Court on the other side of the Mirror. Your mission is to prepare the coronation banquet for Alice. Using the Chess-building system, you activate actions with chess pieces to gain benefits that enhance your engine. You must carefully decide which color will crown Alice—Red or White—to win against your opponents in this strategic competition.
Queen Alice is a medium-heavy German-style game focused on engine building to enhance your actions.
Alice has received a strange request for help. On the mirror in her living room appear words written backwards: "Alice, we need a new queen." Surprised but without hesitation, she touches the mirror and discovers her hand can pass through it. Following her hand, the rest of her body is pulled to the other side of the mirror…
In Queen Alice, you are part of the "Court on the Other Side of the Mirror" and your mission is to prepare the coronation banquet for Alice. Whoever does the best work will become the new Queen's right hand and win the game. To succeed, you must convince the various chess pieces that inhabit this world to help you with the preparations.
You will have decisive influence over Alice's coronation. Depending on the color of the pieces that contribute most to the banquet, Alice will be crowned the White Queen or the Red Queen, or perhaps both! Can you manipulate the kingdom's threads to your advantage and have Alice crowned in the color that best suits your interests? Will you become the most influential person in Alice's new era?
Queen Alice is inspired by "Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There" by Lewis Carroll, from which it borrows some characters and part of the narrative focused on chess and its pieces. However, the game's story is original and is not meant to be a representation of the book's story.
On your turn, you activate various actions using chess pieces and their traditional movements, with a card-driven system. During the game, you gain passive and immediate benefits and acquire enhanced cards, which you'll use to improve your actions when you activate them: this is the "Chess-building" system.
The most exciting part of the game, however, is the "race" for the color crown: only part of Alice's Desires (objectives that award victory points) will be realized and counted during and at the end of the game, so you must carefully choose your actions and advance your Influence over Alice accordingly to make her the Red Queen or White Queen, while keeping an eye on your opponents, who might push for the opposite color.
