Description
Serengeti Sanctuary is a game for one to four players ages 7 and up that takes 30 to 60 minutes to play (approximately 15-20 minutes in solo mode). The game features a wildlife conservation theme and presents beautifully illustrated cards depicting wild animals of the Serengeti and a variety of African landscape settings. Players seek to expand their natural reserves in the most effective way possible.
Each turn, players recruit (draft) cards from the play area following simple rules. They also have members of the park staff who grant additional drafting abilities. The goal is to compose sets of animals and thus accumulate an increasing score. Once drafting is complete, players take turns choosing how many of their cards to play. The score obtained is added to the victory track, and points earned in that turn also serve to strengthen your staff team and obtain sanctuary tokens. Players can also use points to hold cards between turns, with the goal of building even better sets. When a player reaches 50 points or more, the game ends with victory going to the highest score.
Serengeti Sanctuary unites an iconic and beautifully presented theme with well-calibrated gameplay. There are many paths to victory and the outcome remains uncertain until the final moment. It works magnificently as a light game for a wide age range. Simple to learn, the gameplay conceals surprising depth and replayability is high. Playing in solo mode uses exactly the same rules: the 50-point goal must be achieved in three rounds.
