Honu Moana sleeves: comparing size, thickness and quantity

Size determines which cards you can protect; the range determines thickness and quantity. Compare Honu Moana Standard, Superior and Premium in the 63.5 × 88 mm size, then consider Euro, USA and Mini Euro only when they match the components in your edition.

Which one is for you?

Compare the 6 suggestions: start with the experience you want, then explore their strengths and trade-offs.

You draw from a deck, hold its cards, discard them and shuffle it many times. To protect it without making it awkward to use, the first choice is the right size; the second is how the whole deck handles once sleeved. One card fitting well is not enough to confirm that a hundred sleeved cards will fit in the deck box or be comfortable to shuffle. I would test this before sleeving the whole collection.

Honu Moana Premium HMN-7077 in 63.5 × 88 mm and HMN-7029 Euro in 59 × 92 mm provide an initial comparison between two sizes. Further on, you will also find other ranges and sizes. These sleeves are from our own brands, equivalent to uplay.it edizioni sleeves when their size and thickness range match. This equivalence does not make different sleeve sizes interchangeable: the deck in your edition is what matters when choosing.

What do you need?

Base game and expansion cards are shuffled together
Count the entire group you want to use, and keep the size and range consistent to avoid making certain cards recognisable.
Your deck box is already almost full
Try a sleeved stack and check that you can take the cards out as well as close the box.

Honu Moana Premium HMN-7077 are the sleeves I would consider for frequently handled 63.5 × 88 mm cards. Each pack contains 50 clear, 90-micron sleeves. The size matches the group of cards to be protected; the Premium range determines the thickness and quantity to factor into your purchase. Before ordering for an entire game with lots of cards, I would try part of the deck in the actual container and also count any cards that might be added during play. For reordering, keep the code or make a clear note of the size, Premium range and 50-sleeve pack.

The trade-off to know

Do not use them in place of 59 × 92 mm Euro sleeves: the proportions are different. A larger number of sleeved cards may require a roomier deck box. Clear sleeves leave the backs visible and do not hide existing marks, so check that the cards in the deck remain indistinguishable.

Honu Moana: 50 Bustine Premium EURO (59 x 92 mm) (HMN-7029)

Honu Moana: 50 Bustine Premium EURO (59 x 92 mm) (HMN-7029)

For Euro cards measuring 59 × 92 mm

Honu Moana Premium Euro HMN-7029 retain the range's features, with 50 clear, 90-micron sleeves in the 59 × 92 mm size. I would choose them when you have verified that this is the card size, especially to avoid the mistake of ordering a generic standard sleeve. You can use the same counting method as for the 63.5 × 88 mm option, but keep the groups and spares separate. Look for the uplay.it edizioni equivalent in the same Euro size and the same Premium range: the brand may change, but the specifications your deck needs must match.

The trade-off to know

Euro does not mean Mini Euro: 45 × 68 mm cards need a different size. Also check the edition and components rather than relying solely on a list of compatible titles. Even a correctly sized sleeve can make the stack too tall for the original insert.

Honu Moana: 100 Bustine Standard (63.5 x 88 mm) (HMN-7041)

For lots of 63.5 × 88 mm cards while keeping bulk down

Honu Moana Standard HMN-7041 come in packs of 100 clear, 40-micron sleeves in the 63.5 × 88 mm size. I would consider them when you want to protect a large collection and added volume is an important consideration. They offer a direct comparison with Premium sleeves of the same size: size remains the starting point, while thickness and sleeve count change the number of packs you need and the bulk of the stack.

The trade-off to know

Do not mix them with Premium sleeves already in the same face-down deck without checking first. Clear sleeves do not conceal marked backs; even with thinner sleeves, you still need to test handling, shuffling and storage for your intended use.

Honu Moana: 75 Bustine Superior (63.5 x 88 mm) (HMN-GREEN)

Honu Moana: 75 Bustine Superior (63.5 x 88 mm) (HMN-GREEN)

For comparing an intermediate range in the same size

Honu Moana Superior HMN-GREEN come in the 63.5 × 88 mm size, with 75 clear, 60-micron sleeves per pack. I would consider them when you want to compare a feel midway between the 40-micron Standard and the 90-micron Premium. The practical benefit of this choice is being able to compare three thicknesses without changing the size of the cards to protect.

The trade-off to know

Seventy-five sleeves mean a different calculation: for 132 cards, you need two packs, with 18 spares. “Intermediate” describes the stated thickness; it does not guarantee the best feel in every hand or the best fit in every insert.

Honu Moana: 100 Bustine Standard USA (56 x 87 mm) (HMN-7040)

Honu Moana: 100 Bustine Standard USA (56 x 87 mm) (HMN-7040)

For cards in the 56 × 87 mm USA size

Edition language: Italian

See price and buy

Honu Moana Standard USA HMN-7040 are a separate option for the 56 × 87 mm size: 100 clear, 40-micron sleeves per pack. I would choose them after checking both measurements, when the deck's cards match neither 63.5 × 88 mm nor 59 × 92 mm Euro. They round out the comparison of actual proportions, without inferring the size from where the game comes from.

The trade-off to know

Here, USA identifies a size, not all American games. Keep this group and its spares separate from the others: the right quantity in a different size does not solve the problem of protecting the cards you have.

Honu Moana: 100 Bustine Standard Mini EURO (45 x 68 mm) (HMN-7035)

Honu Moana: 100 Bustine Standard Mini EURO (45 x 68 mm) (HMN-7035)

For a large group of Mini Euro cards

Edition language: Italian

See price and buy

Honu Moana Standard Mini Euro HMN-7035 offer 100 clear, 40-micron sleeves in the 45 × 68 mm size. I would consider them for small cards that need to be counted separately from the main deck, especially when the quantity makes a pack of a hundred useful. The Standard range lets you keep bulk down while still matching the specific size rather than using an oversized sleeve.

The trade-off to know

Not all small cards are Mini Euro. Measure the cards in your edition and check their dedicated compartment; if you prefer the Premium range in the same size, both thickness and quantity per pack change, so you need to recalculate.

Two similar sizes are not interchangeable

A 63.5 × 88 mm card is wider and shorter than a 59 × 92 mm card. So simply looking for the sleeve with the larger number is not enough: you need to compare width and height together. The codes HMN-7077 and HMN-7029 distinguish two products from the same Premium range, but designed for different sizes. The name Euro refers to a size, not general compatibility with European games.

Measure a card from the edition you own and check that the cards in each group really are the same size. When checking a pack, distinguish between the compatible card size and the sleeve's external dimensions: measuring the outside of an old sleeve may give a different number. Avoid forcing cards in or choosing a size simply because its name is similar to the one you used for another game.

Protect the group of cards that must remain indistinguishable

The group to sleeve does not always match the deck prepared at the start. In a game with cards that can be bought from a supply, cards that come in later can also end up in the same pile. If you sleeve only the selection for your first evening, you may need to transfer the sleeves every time you change the setup. Decide whether you want to cover the components you use regularly or the entire supply in your collection.

Both Premium options recommended here are clear: you can read both sides, but an already marked back remains visible. Sleeves do not solve that problem on their own. Also check that cards from the same deck cannot be distinguished by sleeve range, height or wear. You can make different choices for decks that stay separate, but check that the rules do not involve combining them during play.

Calculate pack quantities from the cards you actually have

The Premium HMN-7077 and HMN-7029 packs each contain 50 sleeves. If you need to protect 132 cards of the same size, you need three packs: you get 150 sleeves and have 18 left over. This is a numerical example, not the contents of any game mentioned here. Add the cards from expansions already in use before rounding up, so you do not discover during setup that the very last cards have been left unprotected.

Repeat the calculation for each size. In this example, another 46 Euro cards require one 59 × 92 mm pack; the 18 sleeves left over from a 63.5 × 88 mm deck cannot replace them. A few extras are useful as replacements and for additional cards, but there is no need to buy an open-ended supply for future expansions. Keep any leftovers with the packaging so the size and range remain identifiable.

Thickness: consider the stack, how it feels in your hand and the container

Honu Moana specifies 90 microns for both of these Premium options, while the 63.5 × 88 mm Standard and Superior sleeves are 40 and 60 microns respectively. Thickness needs to be considered alongside the number of cards: a tall stack may need more room once sleeved. I would consider Premium for a frequently used deck, checking that it remains comfortable to hold and shuffle. Thickness is a product specification; on its own, it does not guarantee a particular lifespan or absolute protection against bending.

Try taking the deck out of its container without pulling it by the corners, and putting it back without compressing the edges. Also check dividers, tokens and support cards that go in the same box. If you want to double-sleeve, you need to check the compatibility of the inner and outer sleeves and the resulting bulk separately: the card size alone does not confirm that two sleeves can be used together.

Questions before buying

Are three packs of 50 enough for 132 cards?

Yes, if all the cards need that size: you get 150 sleeves, with 18 spares. If the total includes different sizes, separate the groups first and round up the number of packs for each.

Could I receive uplay.it edizioni instead of Honu Moana?

The product listings allow for this substitution with equivalent products. The size and thickness range must match: Standard at 40, Superior at 60 or Premium at 90 microns for the options selected here. Check the pack quantity too; the three ranges are not interchangeable simply because they are the same size.

Does a deck always need double-sleeving for protection?

No. Start with how you use it and the space you have. Double-sleeving adds bulk and requires compatible sizes between the two layers: it is not something the card size or the Premium name automatically calls for.
