Description

The desert region of Sertão, in the northeastern region of Brazil, was the backdrop for the lives of the Cangaceiros, men who embodied the life of the cangaço, from canga, which means yoke. Just as the bull carries the yoke, so did the Cangaceiros carry weapons and the deadly burden that this choice entailed, leaving their loved ones and living in a hostile environment - O Sertão, the scorching hinterland, dotted with withered thorn bushes, the Caatinga, and desolate cliffs, the Serras. The iconic figure of the Cangaceiro goes beyond the stereotypical image of the outlaw who takes from the rich to give to the poor; rather, they were someone who fought to assert their rights and seek revenge, an oppressed farmer who rose up against the tyranny of the Coroneis (the powerful landowners who owned the fazendas, huge estates) because their honor was much more important than anything else. In this context, players portray the leaders of the Cangaceiros and their gangs, feared and respected throughout the Sertão. Show courage and honor. Survive the Caatinga.
