The first game in the Cross Hares line (each of which will be stand alone with its own expansions) is Cross Hares: Testing Ground. CH:TG is a fairly straight forward game. Each player (you can have up to four) chooses a character to play. There are six characters to choose from so whoever picks last isn't always stuck playing the same one all the time. The basic objective is to get from your starting area all the way along the trail to the factory at the end and 'defeat' it. Along the way, you'll draw cards (some of which are good for you, some are bad for you or your opponents, and some are bad for everyone), acquire useful items and specialties (each character has a different set of things he/she will find), and (sometimes) have adventures! In addition to adventures, you will come into conflict with other players. Conflict in Cross Hares takes the form of shoving each other back and forth around the map, or stealing items. There are no Hit Points, no one is going to be knocked out of the game in a fight. Everyone gets to play to the bitter end. And just because you're way back down the path from everyone else doesn't mean you can't win. With the right events (a type of card), or die rolls, you can race ahead of the others and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat! Once you get to the factory, you'll need all your skills and items to defeat it, so be sure you save some of your strength for that.
