Welcome to Despair

Outlaw gangs are out to settle who runs the Town of Despair once and for all. Stepping out into the dusty street at high noon, you eye each other cautiously, gun hands twitching, looking for any advantage. Will you stand and shoot or run for cover? Who will be the first to draw and the last to die?

Game Summary

A Town Called Despair is a tabletop Wild West game for two to four players. The game is played using 28mm miniatures in a 3D western town, complete with hotel/saloon, sheriff's office, bank, gunsmith shop, barber shop, dry goods store, gallows, and over 30 pieces of extra terrain.

Players build their outlaw gang with an array of weapons, assign special skills, and deploy outlaws on the edge of town. Each player is dealt a hand of five cards used for gaining initiative, recovering, healing, outdrawing, and brawling. Dice are used to determine the outcome of gun play. Every turn requires strategic planning with a variety of actions available, e.g. moving, aiming, shooting, reloading, etc. Move up to the roof of a building to gain the advantage of high ground but be careful someone doesn't outdraw you and knock you off to the ground below. Out of ammunition? Charge in and brawl with your bare fists, knives, broken bottles, or anything else handy.

Gameplay & Reviews

Make sure you watch the four-minute gunfight in the video between Jacob & Paul starting at the 30:00 minute mark! Paul bluffs Jacob into a gunfight and outdraws him four times in a row! Hillarious!

Here's what people who have played A Town Called Despair have to say:

“Played this several times and the scenarios are always a blast. I really enjoy the game, and it’s very easy to learn. Definitely a keeper in my gaming collection.”  Gwen Peters

“Easy to start, rules are not too complicated. It’s a great game for those who are not familiar with board games or just started. Really love the design of figures and the scenery!”  Shiqi Zhang

“Tons of fun! This is a dynamic and strategic skirmish game that will keep you and your fellow players on your toes as you try to out maneuver and outdraw each other to win the scenario. After many demo plays, it feels as fun as ever!”  Chris Riggins

“This is a very fun game with a lot of versatility and strategic game play. Every time I’ve played it, it has been a new experience. Between choosing my gang, coming up with hilarious character names, and trying to find the perfect place to ambush my opponents, this game is a constantly evolving experience. This is exactly what I look for in a game!”  Matt Wood

“This is a great game!  I have played it four times at demos around Atlanta and it has been a blast every time.  It is a rules light skirmish game with a deep theme of Western Pulp.  The scenery and minis are excellent.  Easy to pick up, fast to play, no two games are the same, and best of all just plain fun!  I will definitely add this to my collection as soon as it is released.”  Jim Williams

How to play

Easy-to-assemble terrain

Using the easy-to-follow instructions, the buildings and terrain snap together in minutes with a patented tongue-and-groove design. Once assembled, these 3mm-thick high-compression laminated pieces will stand up to repeated use. Comes with everything you need to construct a complete western town, including a bank, a sheriff's office, a barber shop, a dry goods store, a hotel/saloon, a gunsmith shop, a gallows, ladders, wagons, crates, barrels, cacti, and even a town sign. Each piece is highly detailed and the buildings have elaborate floor plans with lift-off second floors and roofs.

Sam Jericho

Doc Smithers

Snake Munroe

The ZOMBIES Expansion

You get a shot off and watch with satisfaction while your enemy crumples to the ground, dead. As you draw a bead on your next target, you notice your previous victim rising unsteadily to his feet. Muttering a curse under your breath, you turn and empty your pistol, riddling him with bullets. Incredibly, this seems to have no effect and what should be twice-dead is still shambling towards you.

This expansion introduces a macabre twist to the Town of Despair. Two different zombie player modes, detailed zombie miniatures, and new terrain add an exciting dimension to this already challenging game.
