It is the Twelfth Century and economic recovery is felt throughout Europe. The development of new merchant routes, in conjunction with the Crusades in the Holy Land, has brought about the emergence of different City-States which, in search of autonomy and stability, establish Republican-type governments. In the game, each player represents a Maritime Republic with unique characteristics: it must make it stand out, gaining greater commercial, war, and political prestige, but engaging also in the development and stability of a republican power. Be careful, then, because a great score alone might not be enough if you can't preserve the Republican nature! The base mechanical of the game is based on a new cube building system. The player can acquire action cubes and must put them in a bag. Then every round he can draw some action cubes. Depending on their color and number he can do some actions. The game lasts 7 rounds, and each round every player can do several actions until he passes. Action cards increase the possibility of the players creating several possibilities and combos during the play. -description from designer
