Dragon Brew takes place in the fantasy kingdom of Brumancia where years of war and conflict among the races has been replaced with competitive beer brewing. Each player chooses a fantasy race, each with its own unique ability, and takes on the role of a head brewer trying to gain victory points by winning prizes with their brews at the annual beer festival. Players attempt to build a brewery estate by generating gold to expand their brewery, harvesting grain and exotic ingredients, researching new recipes, and brewing fantastical beers. In order to earn top prize, and the victory points that go along with such prestige, players will have to adapt their recipes to the ever-changing preferences of the of the beer festival judges. The winner of the game is the player with the highest number of victory points at the end of three turns. Playing The Game Dragon brew is played over three turns. Each turn represents one year. Game years are tracked using the year track on the scoring game board. The game turn is broken out into three phases: Spring, Fall and Winter. The phases are played and completed in order. Spring Phase Players spend the spring phase assigning their assigning their brewers to jobs, expanding their estates and purchasing brewing supplies. Players draft Event or Brewery card from the draft offering. Event cards give players an immediate reward and and Brewery cards expand a player’s estate with new action or upgrades to existing. These are outlined in detail later in this rule book. The spring phase ends after players have assigned all of their brewer meeples. Fall Phase Players simultaneously brew their beers behind their player screens. Beers are created by combining recipe cards in distinct rows. After the beers have been created, the players lift their screens simultaneously and present their beers, reading their names and adding some flavor text and back story to each beer. The judges award victory points to the beer that most meets their preferences based on color, strength and bitterness. Winter Phase The player’s estate is reset for the following turn and the game continues. The winner of the game is the player with the most victory points after three game years.
