From the beloved and prolific “Tolkien of the Beautiful Country”, defined by Gianfranco de Turris as “the father of Italian fantasy”, a picaresque adventure full of magic and fantastic creatures from the Padanian folklore, set in the Middle Ages of King Enzo between Bologna and Modena. The ramshackle Company of the Beautiful Forest decides to steal a pig to alleviate hunger, but unfortunately accomplishes the feat just as the Battle of Fossalta rages. Thus, the rough but determined Sandrone, his pragmatic wife Pulonia, the mild and courageous Butafogh, his girlfriend Falistra, the inventor wizard Paparocia and his little assistant Stupai unwittingly become the members of the unlikely team entrusted with the impossible task of freeing King Enzo from his luxurious Bolognese prison. But when the mysterious Amsora also joins the group, whose objectives are not particularly clear, the Company of the Beautiful Forest begins to find itself at the center of a whirlwind of countless strange events in the midst of the medieval Po Valley...
