Description
Many are familiar with the exploits, the art of combat, and the noble code of Japanese samurai. However, only a few have been able to appreciate their female counterparts: formidable warriors, devoted women ready for any sacrifice or relentless leaders, determined to exercise their power with pride and weapons. In this book, animated by the unmistakable drawings of Benjamin Lacombe, we encounter the stories of Jingū – the legendary empress who in the first century, upon the death of her husband, led her troops to conquer three enemy kingdoms –, of Miyagino and Shinobu, who in the seventeenth century learned martial arts to avenge their father's murder, or even of Nakano Takeko, leading an army of only women during the Boshin War, in the late nineteenth century.
