With secret unit deployment your pieces are on the table but your opponent cannot tell what they are: a wooden block turned away, a face-down counter, a hidden card. The game becomes a contest of bluff and reconnaissance, where a feint is worth as much as an attack. It suits fans of block wargames and anyone who wants a duel where reading the other player matters more than the dice.
This is a small-table mechanic: the average runs from 2 to 3 players, with sessions of around two hours and a recommended age of 12. Vii Legio brings hidden deployment to a Roman battle for 3 to 6 players in an hour; Space Empires: All Good Things applies it to a space war for 1 to 6; Android: Netrunner – Onore e Profitto uses it in the card duel between corporation and runner. Survive The Island, 2 to 5 players in 45 minutes, is the lightest option.
