In contract games someone is always asking for something: deliver three wood and two stone, complete the route, fill the order before anyone else. Contracts give the session a clear direction and turn resource management into a series of concrete goals. They suit players who like to know exactly what they are working towards and enjoy planning deliveries a few turns ahead.
Average playing time is about eighty minutes and the average recommended age is 12. Parks (EDIZIONE ITALIANA 2026) and Pilgrims - Una Curiosa Avventura sit around the hour and work from age 10, Everdell 3rd Edition (EDIZIONE INGLESE) reaches eighty minutes, and Ostia: Mariner Edition is the two-hour heavyweight. Nearly all of them start at one player, so the mechanic lends itself well to solo play.
