A classic for a reason. Agricola is the most worker placement worker placement game condensing the genre while also giving so much room for experimentation and creativity in how you build your farm. Every time I play I feel like I’ve found out new ways to ruin everything, and while it should feel too punishing it just makes me want to play more. It feels knizia like in how it will make you feel stupid for your previous mistakes and I could see how this would drive someone away, but for me this game is a very satisfying experience even though I’ve yet to win, which is the mark of a great game in my opinion.
THE worker placement game. Improvements and Occupations also grant a wonderful amount of variance and replay-ability. I've been playing this game since I was a kid, and it still hits the table consistently.
After playing hundreds of other games, this one still gets the title of being the best in terms of strategy, theme, expressiveness and enjoyment. Simply a classic.
Me and my friends own several good board games, but Agricola is the one we keep playing over and over again. We have yet to find another game with this combination of fairly simple rules and extreme replayability. It is my favorite game, even though I've won only a few games over the years. That speaks volumes, I guess.
