It's like apples to apples, but more hilarious and scales better to huge group sizes. If you and your friends like reading & acting, you'll love this game.
As a bookworm who also loves board game night, this is a perfect party game. We were cracking up at "a Hitchcock movie title" taken from a bodybuilding book, and "moment in a romance novel when the relationship begins to sour" taken from a cookbook!
I think this nails the apples-to-apples style gameplay. Replayablility is super high because the books will be different every time. The prompts are all incredibly creative and really push your imagination. The best part of being judge is watching people exclaim when they've found the perfect answer. Unlike apples-to-apples, there never really seemed a "dead hand" or very many throw-away answers. Heads and shoulders above the rest.
A novel (pun intended) take on the Apples to Apples gameplay formula, allowing for lots more personal creativity, and having everyone generate their own response helps each person to feel a bit of ownership over their responses, which increases engagement considerably. All while retaining the central, hilarious core of nonsensical and/or clever responses to simple prompts. I run with a couple small house rules, but regardless, it's a spectacular party game!
