Another perfect, immersive western (I also love Great Western Trail). I particularly love the real estate mechanics and the action selection in this game.

The year is 1858 in Carson City, Nevada. You have rounded up a team of courageous cowboys, and your plan is to buy up the best parcels of land in this new town, then build them up with the most prosperous ranches, mines, saloons, etc.
Carson City: Big Box is a collection of the Carson City base game, the Gold & Guns expansion, and the upcoming Horses & Heroes expansion. The game board has been redesigned and updated to support a sixth player and the Horses & Heroes expansion. The game is played in four rounds, and in each one of them, the players choose one of the characters, which give certain advantages. When several players claim the same action, a duel is fought, and the player with the most firepower wins the action. In the end, the most prominent citizen in Carson City — as measured by victory points that can be won both during and after the game — wins.
Carson City: Gold & Guns, the first expansion, contains updated buildings and houses, new buildings, new double-sided characters, the "Indian" character (previously a promotional item at Spiel 2010), and a separate expansion called "The Outlaws".
Carson City: Horses & Heroes, the second expansion, lets players visit the rodeo to claim additional victory points and use horses to unlock special actions. Three new characters are also added to the game.

Wow! Stellar game. The game system levers are so beautifully wrought to be in tension with one another. And great player interaction at every turn. Does a player have an awesome building generating a ton of cash? Go try and raid it! Did they take a spot you wanted? Duel them! So much fun and so much replayability. Not for carebears who hate having any take-that or negative interaction. Not for those who insist on zero luck and don't like games where luck mitigation is part of the strategic element. Otherwise, the combination of worker placement, tile placement, city building, and many thematic elements just make this game locked into my collection. Easy 10.
Whereas the original was a 9.5/10, the Big Box is a 10.5/10. Great bits, and really like the horse expansion. Don't think this is a must have if you have the original though.
one of the best eurogames that has high player interaction. the most extensive random setup i have seen which means no two games would be the same. with so many variants to suit every taste. An economic game which combines worker placement with city building and player conflict. A game for every collection.
Recently upgraded to a 10 as this game just gets better the more I play. The variability in just the base game is huge, and with the various expansions it's fit to burst. There's a bit of housekeeping and some quirky building rules that may leave some standoffish at first, but get beyond that and the game play is smooth and fairly swift for its depth. The presentation is first class and artwork and iconography is pretty clear, other than a few buildings which can confuse new players. Proud to own and have backed this. Sensational value.
