THE EXILES is a dark fantasy expansion for the Crescent Moon RPG. In it, you will tell the story of young outcasts banished from the human realm by their own kind and forced to journey through The Below; an otherworldly hellscape no one is said to have ever escaped from—until now. You are to crawl your way out of here, inch by inch. All the while you grapple with the all-consuming force of your blight, the creeping distrust from your allies, and the impending sense that ruin awaits you no matter what. Will you be able to remain true to your heart and take on a hopeless world? Or will you meet a gruesome downfall? It’s up to you, really. While you may look to Crescent Moon for heartwarming stories where the power of friendship wins the day, THE EXILES tells tales of blood and strife—of hard choices and tearful endings. To that means, the game has been adjusted. Broken apart and rebuilt in a strange shape. You can expect the following— More worldbuilding and character options. Including a completely new upbringings list, more items, more spells, more looks, and so on. Highlight the inner shadows of your character. The exiles are always fighting against their blight, so Crescent Moon’s game engine has been adapted to support bittersweet stories that shift between raw anger and fragile emotion. Undoings, weaponry, dares and the blood die open all kinds of new twisted possibilities. Conversely, other bits from Crescent Moon are streamlined or have faded into the background to focus your attention on what makes this expansion shine. A pointcrawl nightmare. The Below fosters all kinds of broken landscapes; traverse them at your own risk. Campaign play in THE EXILES involves travel across a series of bite-sized adventure locations, which can be woven together into an overarching story just as easily as they can be used for one-off sessions. The expansion will include up to a dozen of these interconnected locations. Collaborative worldbuilding. Like the base game, The Exiles supports highly collaborative play. It empowers players to impact the course their story takes by choosing not only what adventures to go on, but the shape of the human world they’ve left behind, the Wretched antagonist they are to fight, and the nightmarish shape The Below takes for them. Who you'll be Forced to grow in an unkind world, you'll play as an older teen—otherwise known as an exile. Regardless of your circumstance, one destiny unites you all: That of those in power condemning you for a capital crime and sending you away to The Below, where you are to suffer for your sins and rot. Or that's how it would go, if you weren't so different...so full of hope and potential. Upon emerging in The Below, a strange force awakens in you. Granting you power unlike anything you could have ever dreamed of in the human realm. With me by your side...who knows what we could accomplish together? The Below—and by extension, your character—is equal parts grim, ferocious, and alluring. As a oneshot, you might simply explore a location in search of answers or a way forward. In a campaign format, you'll travel across The Path in an overarching fight against a Wretched, surviving by the skin of your teeth as you scramble for any leads on how to get out of here.
