Probably my favorite game of all time. Complex enough to track your brain and make every single move feel like it's the most critical thing you'll do all game, while still being abstract enough that it can appeal to non wargamers. A perfect balance. The only negative thing I have to say about the game is that the rulebook can be a bit overwhelming and has a habit of making simple mechanics seem more convoluted than they actually are.

You need several games to absorb the rules, but the game rewards you with a lot of interesting decisions and very few randomness. Even after many games still finding new ways and strategies. Very well playable in two.
Rating this a 10 after my second play of 4p Fire in the Lake. It is just a superb military/political simulation, but incredibly inaccessible due to its wildly asymmetrical factions and COIN mechanics. I have tried both the US and NVA on for size so far. Definitely felt a lot more in control on this second attempt, although the NVA looks very scary coming in to Vietnam from the North and West, so I kept hitting US and ARVN defence walls that I was simply unable to break. Will definitely try the Short Game when I play it next, but have had a lot of fun with this one. It makes me want to give some of the other COIN games a go, too…
Brilliant COIN system game, i think the best one ive played so far. The COIN system is neat, the player interaction is there and although the game is hard to learn, its actually all quite intuitive and most of it makes sense if you think about it from a real life perspective.
My favorite COIN game. All of the expansions are absolutely wonderful! They make this already AMAZING game even better!!!
