Gads Hill 1874 takes you back to 1872 Texas, when the city of Gads Hill entered history through Missouri's first train robbery by the James-Younger gang. Today almost nothing remains of the city, but in the game you and fellow players (2-4) reconstruct what Gads Hill was like, deducing information about duels, hotels, and hideouts of the legendary gang. Who will provide the most relevant information? An engaging historical deduction game for 45 minutes, inspired by the award-winning Old Town.

The city of Gads Hill was founded in 1872, and it gained popularity through the first train robbery in Missouri committed by the James Younger gang. Today, there is hardly anything that remains of Gads Hill — only a sign at the place where the gang stopped the train gives evidence of the earlier existence of the city. How did Gads Hill look like 140 years ago? Where did the duels take place? Where was the hotel located where the Pinkerton detectives spent the night? Where had the Younger brothers been seen? Take your part on reconstructing the city in Gads Hill 1874. The player who brings the most relevant information to this reconstruction project wins the game. Gads Hill 1874 is based on the concept of the award-winning game Old Town.

A puzzly game of who-can-best-see-patterns combined with some luck of the draw captured in a western-themed abstract. Fine w 2 and plenty of replay value. Sits on our shelf w Cafe Melange.

I already was a fan of the Old Town original. Better components, more professional artwork and more polished rules make the game almost perfect. (I do miss updated solo rules for the upgrade version, though).
