The first batch of patients selected to participate in the Be a Better Human project arrived today. There would be nothing strange about it if the media coverage wasn’t so scarce. To refresh, only a year ago the project was widely publicized as a cure for the rising crime wave kicked up by cybernetically-enhanced individuals.

A year ago, Nakamura looked to have found a solution. With copious subsidies from the government, the Be a Better Human project launched to quell swelling cybercrime. Experimental treatment based on isolating a digitized ego was pitched as the most effective means of resocialization. It soon turned out the reality was much less simple.
