Giant-Format Illustrated Volume by H. P. Lovecraft in Italian

The Dunwich Horror took place between the Harvest Festival and the equinox of 1928. Professor Armitage was one of the witnesses to its abominable prologue. In the remote village of Dunwich, Massachusetts, lost in the depths of an inhospitable countryside with its dark clearings overgrown with brambles, ancient stories of witches still live on, and strange underground sounds sometimes echo beneath hills topped with mysterious stone circles.

On a remote farm in the region, Lavinia Whateley, a naïve albino, gives birth to a son, Wilbur, whose father is unknown. Old Whateley, Lavinia's father, raises Wilbur amid the mistrust of the locals, who are frightened by the child's rapid growth and his repulsive face. Rumors of witchcraft had always circulated about old Whateley and, after his death, Wilbur, now grown up, seems determined to expand the unholy knowledge he has been given. To this end, he travels to Miskatonic University in Arkham to borrow the copy of the sinister Necronomicon in its possession. Professor Armitage, understanding his visitor's malevolent intentions, refuses to grant the request. Determined to get hold of the book, Wilbur tries to break into the library at night, setting off a series of tragic events...

Steep valleys made impenetrable by hostile vegetation, frenzied sabbaths around the fires on Walpurgis Night, whippoorwills ready to steal the souls of the dying, invisible creatures that ravage the countryside by night...

Far from the grandiose and exotic landscapes of "The Call of Cthulhu" or "At the Mountains of Madness," this tale by Lovecraft is set in New England, a region dear to the author, where he set many of his stories.

Fascinated by the universe of H. P. Lovecraft, François Baranger, an illustrator renowned worldwide for his talent as a concept artist for films and video games, has taken on the "cyclopean" task of putting his principal stories into images.

Lovecraft is not told. By definition. Every one of his tales is full of adverbs and nouns that insist that these horrible visions cannot be represented. How does François Baranger do it? What is his strategy? We don't know, but it works.

François Baranger is an illustrator and concept artist. In recent years he has worked as artistic director for several video games and films. Following the series of illustrated volumes that began with "The Call of Cthulhu" and "At the Mountains of Madness," and the success of the series, his new project is an illustrated version of H. P. LOVECRAFT: The Dunwich Horror! This is the first printing.
