You awake in the dark with nothing but a candle and...have you done this before? The déjà vu is less troubling than the change it implies. Was the ground always this unstable around you? When the tunnels crumbled into pits, did they always scream? And why does it feel like those screams are getting closer?
The Shrieking Hollow is an expansion that adds a new threat and a new space to explore within The Night Cage. Pits now connect prisoners to the Hollow, where The Other lies in wait. Over the course of play, The Other will rise up out of the Hollow and attack the prisoners, destroying any part of the maze it encounters. If the prisoners are brave, they can leap into a pit and fall to the bottom of the Hollow where the dim light of their candles will stop its advance, temporarily. However, they can't hold it back forever, and prisoners that stay too close to The Other will be attacked when it lurches toward the flickering light it despises.

The Other adds a great tension to the main game. You have the Shrieking Hollow as a constant threat, and it makes other monsters more of a jolt when they appear. The other terrors mix seamlessly into the main game. I appreciate that they put everything new into one box, like the Endbringer.
Halloween is here and The Night Cage stands as one of the premier horror games in 2024! Shrieking Hollow is a great expansion that makes The Night Cage feel like the game it’s supposed to be. The art is reminiscent of Junji Ito, Cosmic Horror themes that work really well. Game mechanics are simple to understand but have plenty of depth for a diverse range of moves / board state outcomes. Definitely a keeper in my collection!
All in upgrades components. Neoprene mat. Love the addition of the hollow adds a new layer of horror
Completely revolutionizes the game Some of the encounter cards aren't super useful or add much to the game, and most of the monsters are redundant editions if you already owned the previous add-ons, but the main attraction and namesake of this expansion is completely worth the investment
I mostly ordered this for the Pathway cards and the Night Terrors deck (I already had the new monsters, which are also great). I was less interested in The Hollow sideboard with the giant monster, The Other. But I've got to admit, after playing with The Other I think I'd have a hard time going back, it's great! And the pieces that I was initially excited about did not disappoint. Glad I picked up this expansion.
