My 10 rating is for playing it co-op. I'd only give it a 6 for solo though because I very much dislike shuffling and there's a lot of it in this game and I feel it also loses a lot of the strategy that exists in the co-op game. Co-op, however, it's an absolutely brilliant game. I love that you're looking at how best you can help your partner and with the silent play option I love how you're hoping that they realize exactly what you need.

You are a Dreamwalker, lost in a mysterious labyrinth, and you must discover the oneiric doors before your dreamtime runs out – or you will remain trapped forever! You may wander through the chambers of dreams, hoping that chance will reveal the doors, or you can linger in each type of room. In both cases, you will have to deal with the slithering Nightmares, which haunt the hallways of the labyrinth. Onirim is a solo/cooperative card game. You (and a partner) must work (together) against the game to gather the eight Door cards before the deck runs out; you can obtain those Door cards either by playing cards of the same color three turns in a row, or by discarding (under specific circumstances) one of your powerful Key cards. In both cases you will have to decide the best use of each card in your hand and carefully play around the Nightmares. Those cards are hidden in the deck and will trigger painful dilemmas when drawn... Three mini-expansions, all standalone and compatible with one another, are included with the basic game: "The Towers" introduces a new type of card that allows more searching and deck manipulation, while also imposing an additional victory condition. "Happy Dreams and Dark Premonitions" adds evil time bombs that will impede your progress at predictable moments of your quest as well as helpful but unreliable allies. In "The Book of Steps Lost and Found", you must find the eight Door cards in a randomly given order and may remove discarded cards from the game to cast powerful spells that will help you complete this difficult task.

I will just quote my email to the author: Hi, I just wanted to congratulate you for your game "Onirim". I would be hardly pressed to find words that could adequat[e]ly express my deep admiration of your design. In this moment I won the game (using all three expansions in their hardest variant). It was a very satisfactory experience and I am just a tiny bit sad that I will never be able to experience it the *first* time again. I just hope that I will be able to create such a game myself one day. Best Regards Heinrich (Glumpler)
There may be a bit of bias in this rating, but the art and story of the game combines perfectly with the design and gameplay to create a great and quick solo experience. Running through the deck, navigating the visitors, trying to avoid nightmares — it all captures the tense anxious feeling of a bad dream so well. Most of the art (including all in the base set) is a huge hit, with only some striking as lazy over fuzzy and dreamlike.
It absolutely is an best solo-play game! Low price, clear theme, simple rules, light weight, fast paced, but fun and challenges with three expansions. If you hate complex game rules and set a lot of tokens, and want to enjoy playing games alone, you must to play this fantastic game. You know sometimes it's really hard to find a playmate when you desire a board game play. Recommended to pick one and put it in your pocket. And I did bought two copies of this game.
Fantastic Solitary Game!! To master the basic game is quite a challenge but there are 3 expansions to spice things enough so you have Onirim for a long time!! The 2 players game didn´t catch my attention too much. This is definitely a solo game.
