Description from the publisher: At the Horribilorum Sorcery Academy for Witty Witches and Wizards, we are not afraid of ghosts! Potion Explosion: The Fifth Ingredient introduces a new spooky ingredient: Ghost Ectoplasm! But don't panic as the new Professors will teach you how to handle it safely and use it to brew powerful new potions! This expansion for Potion Explosion steps up the game to a whole new level! Thanks to the fifth ingredient acting as a joker, players can now trigger even more incredible explosions to prepare their potions. Five new potions allow for even more diverse gameplay! On top of this, new Professors dramatically change the way of brewing potions!

We don't play Potion Explosion without this expansion. The wild 5th Ingredient makes it more fun (and flexible). Unfortunately it's OOP (at least as of 2025) but the anniversary edition of P.E. was released that includes all the expansions so you can get it there. Highly recommend.
Adds new, white marbles acting as a wild cards. While these make the game a little bit easier, you can spice up the difficulty with addition of different profesors, changing the rules and adding challenge. New potions are also very good. Highly recommended.
This expansion takes a great game and makes it even better. Outside of the racism, I love the professors it adds, and the fifth ingredient gives you some interesting choices as well. One of our first games with this expansion we used the time-penalty professor and the "don't drop components" professor simultaneously and it was an absolute riot. Highly recommend.
PERMANENT PLACE IN COLLECTION. - - - A birthday gift from myself to I. I do not regret it. This expansion is a nice addition to the base game and doesn’t change the gameplay too much. - - - EDIT (4.1.2020): The Fifth Ingredient is an excellent expansion! It’s easy to add to the mix and doesn’t change the core or nature of the game. On the contrary, the professors, for instance, add to the theme and fun. My play group enjoys this expansion a lot, as well.
