I love games where first impressions give way to greater understanding; so often for me games are no more than what they first appear to be. PUNCT really grew on me, though. At first it seemed like Twixt redux. But as I got a chance to play more, more interesting subtelties emerged and the game really grabbed me. In fact, I think it's one of the better GIPF-games; not as interesting to me as the wonderfully different TAMSK, but more engaging than DVONN or YINSH, and I found the play to be more engaging than ZERTZ even (although I think most players will like ZERTZ at least a little better).

I do like it, but maybe with the most asterisks involved. Piece movement is less intuitive, the objective is more abstract, everything is just weird here. But also it's fascinating because I haven't seen anything like it. I need to discover more about it. I keep joking that this series is designed to NOT play well on TTS, or any digital emulation, haha. And this is the worst offender of them all, it really screws up because of how stacking works. Fair enough.
Kris Burm does it again! Abstract games are very unforgiving; the balance between intuitive to play and readily solvable is very hard to get right. Kris Burm has demonstrated that he can do it not just once, but 6 times. Pünct manages to be aesthetically pleasing, fast, and intuitive. It is also totaly different from anything else in the series, being a connection game. We'll be seeing this one in the top 100 soon, I'm sure :)
Now my favourite project-GIPF game. It is a fascinating 3D connection game. Aim to place your pieces to have more than one purpose eg defensive & offensive at the same time. It took me a while to appreciate PÜNCT as it is not as immediately accessible as most of the other project-GIPF games. I play this every week face-to-face.
