Description Description
In the card game Race for the Galaxy, players build galactic civilizations by playing game cards in front of them that represent worlds or technical and social developments. Some worlds allow players to produce goods, which can be consumed later to gain either card draws or victory points when the appropriate technologies are available to them. These are mainly provided by the developments and worlds that are not able to produce, but the fancier production worlds also give these bonuses.

At the beginning of each round, players each select, secretly and simultaneously, one of the seven roles which correspond to the phases in which the round progresses. By selecting a role, players activate that phase for this round, giving each player the opportunity to perform that phase's action. For example, if one player chooses the settle role, each player has the opportunity to settle one of the planets from their hand. The player who has chosen the role, however, gets a bonus that applies only to him. But bonuses may also be acquired through developments, so one must be aware when another player also takes advantage of his choice of role.

Not quite as daunting to play as it seems at first, a very satisfying engine-building experience. The core game doesn't involve much player-interaction, but that isn't to its detriment!

Fantastic, I love it. This fits perfectly a niche for my wife and myself where we don't have a lot of time to play games, but still want games that are on the heavier side of things. Follow dynamic means that you're always feeling engaged in the game. Fairly small box game. Short set up.

Bought a 2nd ed. version to get the updated cards and extra start worlds. Also now I can have one set for Arc #1 and #2, and one for Arc #3.

Packs an amazing depth of engine-building strategy into a 15-minute game. Also interesting in how differently it plays with two players versus higher player counts, while working great with both. I prefer the head-down two-player game online, but multiplayer is better in person, where you can look around the table and study people and try to guess what action they will call.

More or less my first board game, so no real reference for rating, but what is certain is how much fun it is. It's incredible how much depth and variety this game offers, especially with the new expansions. Most likely the only game my brother and I need for years to come.
