Shunga depict the erotic activity of a couple between pleasure and pain, and the beauty of their bodies with the finest Japanese woodblock printing. The technique used is called ukiyo-e and was particularly widespread in the Edo period (17th-19th century). Almost all ukiyo-e artists dabbled in Shunga at some point in their careers. This impressive sum of 586 pages features various shunga works by artists such as Hokusai, Utamaro, Kuniyoshi, Kiyonaga, and Eisen. The magical touch of Kazuya Takaoka, art director of the previous Hokusai Manga, knows how to enhance the sublime graphics of this corpus. Kazuya Takaoka: Born in 1945 in Kyoto. As an art director, he has overseen numerous design and advertising projects. Among his works, Wagashi won the Gourmand Best Design Award.
