Description
The Plum Island Horror is a 1 to 4 player game featuring cooperative play that combines tactical-level unit management with a tower-defense style survival mechanic. Each player will control one of six unique factions which represent the various groups that populate Plum Island. Each of these Factions has its own strengths and weaknesses, and the system encourages you to optimize for the group’s strengths and marginalize its weaknesses. Players must coordinate with one another, and the resulting synergy will hopefully be enough to successfully evacuate a city under siege and contain the horrific outbreak that threatens to spread beyond the island itself. If the players can succeed, they will win together, and the world will most likely be none the wiser to the averted crisis. If not, they will lose together and share the blame equally for failing humankind.

Doubly biased - I am a Hermann Luttmann fanboy and I was a playtester for this game. Hermann's design and Ken's development combine to make a terrific game. It's difficult to win at first, but rewards exploration of the various faction combinations and setups. The theme integrated with the mechanisms (and you can see some of Hermann's other works' influence here) helps build a narrative amidst the randomness of card draws, dice rolls and chit drawing. I absolutely love the art; kudos to whoever's idea this was. The "old comics" feel through the box and rulebook integrate with the theme of the game perfectly. 10/10 - will play more, will buy expansions

I just completed my first Solo play through and enjoyed the game immensely. The components are excellent and the game flows nicely once you get the rules down. I can see this being a blast with more players, and plan on introducing this next time we get a group together. There are many decision points from start to finish and you could replay many times and not get the same game twice.

Playing as a stuttering singer who stuns hordes of horrors with his voice, as a city and the world head towards destruction... all signed GMT: what else? (... instead, the other one arrives, with the announced P500 expansion: Elon Monk arrives!)

A lot of stuff going on but the game is pretty intuitive so it's not overly complicated. Definitely one of the best solo games I've very played.
