I like this game. It's very pretty and it keeps me thinking. Reminds me a lot of Elfenland. Updated 2026: I still love this game.

It's the 19th century in the lush Amazon jungles where you'll search for rare plants and animals. Explore winding trails and waterways, guiding your expedition from village to village to establish new outposts. But beware: hungry crocodiles and jaguars lurk around every corner! A strategic adventure game for 3-4 players, ages 10+, lasting about 50 minutes.

I'm hesitant to rate many Mayfair Games to avoid shilling (or, perhaps, gloating for low ones), but Amazonas is a game I enjoy playing and teaching as often as possible. The exploration theme really disguises a slick economics game, with maximizing every income round as important as collecting animal samples. And a big, beautiful board!
*I really liked the game. It seems to be cross-breed from TTR and PowerGrid... Easy and fast game, beautiful looking as well. I mean, what is there not to like.
A brilliant and wonderful game. It has a lot of fun elements all combined into an original and superb design. Surprisingly deep strategy and some randomness that enhances the game because the events come up in a different order every time, giving good replayability. There is set collection, route connection, blind bidding, and player interaction all combined into an elegant harmony. The beautiful board with vibrant colors, plus cards and artwork to match, also helps the theme of exploration come alive and makes it a pleasure to play the game. One of the most under rated games on BGG.
This is a good 1 hour game. The rounds go fast enough, and there is a lot to plan for. Being mostly about set collection, the game is well balanced and players will often bump into each others planned routes causing a need to scramble for the resources they had planed to get. There does seem to be a base strategy of planning your resource pick ups around making your bid cards progressively stronger.
