Everything you want in a card game! Apart from the ugly box front (which doesn't correlate at all the to cards inside) the game is fun! Played over 3 rounds- chapter 1 =drafting cards, chapter 2 =playing to win (or loose) and score on tricks, chapter 3 getting more points from your hand selection in chapter 1. Tidy! There have been some laughs like when the ice queen comes out and no one wins hearts, and conspiracy when 2 players put beauty and the beast down. It's important to read the cards carefully so you don't get stung later. FYI there are 8 monsters, 8 villains, 8 wonderland mushrooms, 8 magical wands, 8 dwarf picks, 9 kids, 9 magical, 9 animal paws, 9 crowns.

Once Upon a Time is an engaging card game that takes you on a magical adventure through three chapters. Choose your cards wisely and combine abilities to score points. Perfect for 2-6 players, with games lasting about 30 minutes, it's suitable for ages 10 and up.
The game game is in consignmentStock but only few copies are available
• Chapter 1: Start with eight cards in hand, choose one, then pass the remaining cards clockwise. Continue doing this until all cards are drafted.
• Chapter 2: Play one card each. The highest card wins the trick and receives two points. Additionally, compare the skills on your cards with one another as this can earn you additional points.
• Chapter 3: Finally, evaluate the skills within your selected hand cards. They can bring additional points in this chapter.
If you choose the fairy tale creatures wisely at the beginning, you can win plenty of tricks and collect lots of points. Clever card combinations can also bring points without tricks because everyone knows, say, that Hansel and Gretel are particularly strong as a team...

This is a phenomenal game. I think it’s the best game this year. Fantastic theming. Simple enough for the casual board gamer with enough strategy for even the most hardcore board game enthusiast. Brilliant design. Kudos to the game designer!
This is my biggest surprise of 2025. My kids absolutely love this game! And surprisingly, even my 7 year-old can play. It also has enough going on to be fun for hobby gamers & plays in 20 minutes. For fans of games like Fantasy Realms.
This game has so many things going for it. I love a good drafting game and this does that very well. The trick taking phase two and the tableau scoring phase 3 work very well together and make for really interesting choices. There are some different strategies to pursue and it is quick enough that you can play a few gams in a row. The abilities are easy to understand and the relationships between characters make sense if you are familiar with the fairy tales they are based on, so I think of the game works. I just wish the box art popped more because I think some people may pass by this excellent game and miss out!
Very creative game and design. Game takes place over three rounds (Chapters). Chapter 1 is card drafting for end game tableau and scoring. Chapter 2 is Trick Taking but the card you play in the trick comes back into a face up tableau in front of each player. Chapter 3 is final scoring of the tableu. Cards are score off of each other in Chapters 2 and 3. Cards are all based on fairy tales and trying to get cards that go together (Example: Peter Pan card and Captain Hook card) help achieve higher scores.
