Somehow Alpine Lakes feels both more simple and more complex than base Cascadia. The wildlife and habitat scoring is more straightforward than Cascadia but the ability to go vertical adds an amazing new layer (pun intended) to the game! Add to that the extra scoring cards and it feels like an enormous amount of content to sink your teeth into!

Cascadia: Bergseen (Cascadia: Alpine Lakes) is a standalone game that continues the journey started with the award-winning Cascadia. Players continue to build the most diverse environment of the Pacific Northwest, drawing new double hex habitat tiles and animal tokens to compose their landscape mosaic, expanding it not only in width but also in height.
The big novelty is the vertical dimension: habitat tiles are now double hex and can be stacked, transforming your territory into a three-dimensional spatial puzzle with new stacking and adjacency challenges. Each game offers unique scoring objective combinations based on how the five animal species are arranged among the three different alpine habitats, and also rewards how well the lakes and fauna are surrounded and elevated.
The turn remains simple and immediate: you choose a pair consisting of a habitat tile and an animal token, then place it in your expanding environment. Scoring cards for habitats and environments add special conditions, offering a new spatial challenge each time among the thousands of possible combinations.

If you love Cascadia and play it often, this gives you exactly what you need....more Cascadia, a little bit more advanced gameplay with the same cozy feeling to it.
I wonderful sequel to the Cascadia line of games from Flatout! Familiar gameplay and mechanics, but a deeper, more richer experience when you start to elevate your environments! You're never fully stuck in this game as you can always elevate to change the habitat or wildlife, but the puzzle becomes quite challenging as you may start to restrict yourself from certain options! Wonderfully replayable, and as great solo as it is played with a full group! Can't wait to get this one!
I love how similar yet different this feels from Cascadia. We love going through all the challenges and playing with so many different strategies. Really great game!!
This game is soooooo good. Every time I've played everyone's scores have been extremely close, which is something I have not seen commonly in the original. I commend the designer for taking what was already a great game up another notch. I will say that I will only play this with people who have played Cascadia because it is a lot to take in otherwise (at least if you play the full game with all possible score options).
