Description
Cat in the Box is an unusual science experiment... or rather, a quantum grasping game in which you declare the colour of the card only after you have played it. Each combination of colours and values can only be played once: be careful not to create a paradox! Subjects should be kept individually in a box-shaped container that cannot be observed from the outside. Except during the experiment, absolutely avoid keeping several specimens in the same box, the better not to discover the effects.

Easily my favorite trick game. It is very different because all the cards are black and do not have a suit, you define the color of the cards and try not to get into a paradox before finishing the round. The score depends on a guess you got right combined with the mosaic of colors and numbers you created. Easily playable more than once a night, with several people new or experienced in the world of board games.

I love this take on the trick taking game. The player's choice of determining the suit of each card they play makes for fun and dynamic gameplay. It's best at 4-5 players. Definitely one I would recommend to anyone who loves card games.

I'm a little trick-taker'd out these days, but Cat in the Box remains my favorite game in the genre. I think what does it for me is first of all the ambiguity of your hand, and the ability to improvise a plan on the fly. This is present in all trick-takers, but CitB does it really well. Secondly, I really like the board-placement mechanic. It adds a substantial physical element that, when you get it to dovetail with all of the other mechanics, really feels rewarding. Then there's the "quantum" theming, which I find fun, and well-reflected in the design. Just a great game, and kind of thing I find highly addictive.

L’expérience a un peu fait pshiit pour Cat in the Box, dommage. Cat in the Box reste un bon jeu de plis et les amateurs s’y retrouveront sans doute, mais pour quelqu’un comme moi qui n’est pas fan à la base, le jeu n’apporte pas suffisamment de sang frais pour me convaincre. La mécanique est très bien réglée et efficace mais derrière une prétention d’originalité, on se retrouve à reproduire les stratégies habituelles de ce genre de jeux.
